A tourist visa counts the days of a visit. A UAE Residence Visa 180 Days Calculator counts something else: how long a residence holder has been outside the UAE. Residents are generally expected not to remain outside for more than 180 consecutive days, or the residence can be at risk. This page explains how to use exit and entry dates to see that gap. It does not calculate a penalty or a total. If you are a visitor, you want the UAE visa calculator.
A tourist count asks how long you may stay inside the country on a visit. The 180-day residence question asks how long you have stayed outside. Mixing them up makes residents think a holiday allowance is a residence rule, and it makes visitors think they have a 180-day residence. They do not. Visitors follow the dates on the visit. Residents follow the presence rule on the residence.
The calculator is an organiser for dates you already know. It is not a letter from the authority. If your visa type has a different absence rule, the visa type wins.
For each trip out of the UAE, enter the day you left and the day you came back. The gap between those two dates is the time outside. Add every trip you want in the picture. Remove a row if you typed it wrong. The useful result is the longest consecutive stretch outside, not a vague total of all travel in your life.
Use the stamps or the official entry and exit record. Memory is a poor source. A transit that did not enter the UAE is not an entry. A flight that only connected may not reset anything. Read the stamp.
If a single absence is approaching 180 days, you are close to the line residents worry about. Come back before the absence becomes the problem, or ask the authority whether your visa type has an exception. If every absence is short, the calculator is only a record. It is not a prize and it is not a renewal.
| You type | The page is checking | It is not checking |
|---|---|---|
| Exit date | When you left the UAE | A ticket |
| Return date | When you came back | A hotel |
| Each trip | The length of that absence | Your whole travel history unless you enter it |
| Optional year | A way to group trips | A change in the 180-day idea |
Tourists. Students on a visit. People who have not received a residence yet. People whose visa letter names a different absence limit. Golden Visa holders should read the absence rule printed for that visa, because long-residence products are sometimes described differently from a standard employer file. If your letter disagrees with a generic 180-day story, follow the letter and confirm it with the authority.
Also do not use this calculator to plan an overstay inside the country. Time inside on an expired visa is a different emergency. This tool is about time outside on a residence that is still the status you hold.
The tool subtracts dates. It does not know if a day was a grace, an official exemption, or a stamp you misread. It does not know if you hold a visa that pauses the count. It will not tell a border officer what to do. Take the number as a warning light. Take the decision from the authority or from the text of your visa.
Renewal asks whether the residence should continue. Absence asks whether the current residence is still safe while you are away. You can be inside the 180-day line and still forget to renew. You can renew and then stay outside too long afterwards. Put both dates on the calendar: the visa expiry, and the day your current absence would hit the limit.
Family members have their own residences. A sponsor’s travel does not automatically equal a spouse’s travel. Run the dates for each person who holds a visa.
Stop guessing. Contact the authority that issued the residence before you book a casual return and hope the kiosk is kind. Bring the exit stamp and the visa. Explain the absence. Do not create a new tourist file to cover a broken residence. A visit and a residence are different statuses, and stacking them is how records get messy.
If the authority offers a way to repair the file, follow that way. If the residence has already fallen away, ask what status you need now. The calculator’s job ended when it showed the gap.
Suppose you left the UAE on a date you can point to in the passport, and you returned on a later date you can also point to. The calculator’s only job is the number of days between those stamps. If that number is climbing toward the absence limit on your visa, you plan the return or you ask the authority about an exception. If you took two trips, you look at each gap, not at a blended average. A short trip does not dilute a long one.
Write the stamps down before you type them. Include the year. A date without a year is how people measure the wrong season. If a child travelled on different days, run the child separately. The sponsor’s gap is not the child’s gap. The example is only dates. It is not a penalty and it is not a new visa.
This calculator does not produce a total. If you need a new visa or a residence service, the current total is on the visa processing page. Use that page for the total. Use this page only for the dates outside the country.
